As my high school career ends, I notice increasingly how much life that I have yet to live and the opportunities available to me in the years ahead. The past four years have been great preparation for my future endeavors, but college is the path leading to my full potential. In order to reach the end of this path, I utilize my most valuable trait—determination—to set short and long-term goals and achieve them. It is with this â€Å"can do† spirit—like the one my grandpa, a former Navy Seabee, evinces through his stories—that I have set my personal goals: to volunteer my time in service to others, further develop leadership skills through experiential learning, and excel at my school work no matter how challenging it may seem. Though these may†¦show more content†¦My third goal addresses this constant need for improvement with the philosophy that the only way to improve is through gains in knowledge and wisdom. To meet this goal, I must dive into my studies and reap all that there is to ascertain from them. These three interconnected goals alongside my optimistic attitude connect me to my future because they lay the path toward its realization. During college, I plan to major in physics and mathematics, but I expect to take a wide variety of courses to maintain my well-rounded nature. With this broad background and focus on personal goals, I feel confident that I will meet my career objective and dream of becoming a physicist. How do my goals provide the means to meet my objective? My avid pursuit of volunteerism encourages me to maintain a career path on which I may develop technologies that will help people. Once I obtain employment, I hope to be able to utilize my leadership skills on the job site as an expert in my field; however, in order to obtain that employment initially, I must complete college and graduate school, which will require that I excel in my classes. Idealism describes the belief or pursuit of a perfect vision often based upon unrealistic principles. This pursuit is often contrasted and opposed by truth. The truth and reality in an individual’s life is what enables this person to remain grounded and down to earth. An individual must set themselves high expectations in order to be their best, but they must also acknowledge the fact that everything they desire is not achievable. The imbalance of idealism and truth in an individual’s life can have calamitous effects. It is significant in an individual’s life because it can lead to the deterioration of an individual’s sanity, destruction of family relationships and ultimately death. The reality is that he spent his whole life pursuing unrealistic dreams based on negative personal values. The reality of the situation is that his death is in vain. The Loman’s only had one more payment left on the house, and don’t actually need the money anymore. This causes him to believe that he is worth nothing more alive and kills himself to enable his family to collect his life insurance money. Letters to a Young Poet Reflection Essay At the beginning of the book, I found the book extremely hard to read. The language Rile was speaking in was different and hard to understand. Some points I got but some I didnt and it became very wish washy. I found myself having to read the same poem over and over until I got a clue of what he was talking about and what his purpose of the letters were. Then he said something that really made me think and look inside of myself and come to my senses. He told the poet to quit looking outside of himself and to stop asking for approval and for acceptance of his art form ND to not be afraid to make mistakes. He told him to simply look inside of himself and ask himself if writing is really what he wants to do. To find in himself the command to write and to find that impulse In his heart that commands him to write and to find wealth himself the need to write as much as he needs oxygen to live. This really hit me because ever since I was a little five year boy, I realized I wanted to be a performer and I have never wanted to do anything else to this day. I have this need to do my art form, I sing when I talk, I dance when I walk, Its in my blood. We need to make ourselves open and ready for anything and to allow ourselves to have different experiences. When we allow ourselves to be open, we then experience relationships, love, and success. We have to let life happen. And through the openness we begin to receive confidence. Rile said to trust that life is always in the right, all we have to do is Just trust and not to doubt. As an artist it is easy to doubt. It is easy to doubt that our work is good; we doubt that we will get the Job; we doubt that we are good enough. But instead of doubt we need faith. We need to keep the faith in ourselves and continue to stay confident and stand by everything we do. Rile also said to not Just throw the doubt out, but to train it. He said to challenge it and demand proof of the doubt. And that if you train the doubt right, it can become a good quality instead of something trying to bring you down. I can really relate to the poet. I always want outside help with everything. And I have so many questions that I want answered and so many things I worry about with my personal self and with my art form. Rile really shows the connection between the two and how they can both affect each other. He really helped me realize why I am here at Leon. I am here to work on myself and to better myself. It is important to have relationship with others and to have the outside activity, but Rile pointed out that we are naturally solitary and that we need to use the solitude to work on ourselves. I came into this book expecting it to be boring and expecting it to not be fruitful. I didnt think it was going to have anything to do with acting; I had no clue how the book was going to help me as far as acting. But the book took a complete left turn for me and really changed everything about me. Its crazy how much this book really connects with acting and everything I have been learning so far his semester. Not only was the book helpful in acting, but it included life lessons in the book and how to go through this crazy thing called life. It gave me advice on struggles I am currently going through as I adapt to college life and adulthood. It is the perfect book for me as a freshman to read as I start my new chapter of my life here in college. It changed my outlook on life and on my craft but also on myself. With the advice and the fruitful words of Rile, I am now ready to really dig deep into myself and become the best artist and person I can be.

The Boston Tea Party The importance of the event The Boston Tea Party was the key-event for the Revolutionary War. With this act, the colonists started the violent part of the revolution. It was the first try of the colonists, to rebel with violence against their own government. The following events were created by the snowball effect. There, all the colonists realized the first time, that they were treated wrong by the British government. It was an important step towards the independence dream, which was resting in the head of each colonist. They all flew from their mother country to start a new life in a new world, but the British government didn't gine them the possibility by controlling them. The causes for the Boston Tea Party The events leading to the Boston Tea Party began already ten years before ( 1763 ), when the English won the French-and-Indian War. The king of Britain passed taxes on the colonies to make up for the loss of money because of the war. He did it in a line of acts, called the Sugar Act ( tax to protect and secure the colonists ) and the Stamp Act ( tax on all licences, newspapers and business papers ). The colonists reacted with protests against those acts, what made the British Parliament to repeal the taxes within 5 months. Then they (the government ) passed taxes on lead, paint, paper and tea. These acts were called the Townshed Duties, but the colonists called them the Insidious Acts. Mass meetings were held and people tried to influence others not to buy English imported goods anymore. In the end the parliament removed all the taxes except for tea. Actually the colonists easily didn't want to accept, to pay taxes to a government, they don't really belong to anymore. Although this tax on the tea cost a colonial family just pennies a year. Sam Adams, a kind of leader of the colonists, figured out, that the tax could be raised or lowered by the parliament at will. ( Sam Adams: The power to tax is the power to destroy! ).He also pointed out, that the colonists had no representation in the Parliament, and that they can't be taxed without having a representation in there, to care for their interests and wills. However, most people drank tea smuggled in from the Netherlands, so they didn't care very much whether the parliament raises or lowers the taxes. When the East India Tea company realized, that the colonists were drinking cheap, smuggled tea, the Parliament gave them ( the company ) the monopoly to export tea without paying duties. That way the tea could be much cheaper than the holland tea, even with the taxes. This act was called the Tea Act, which was of great importance for the following Boston Tea Party. The colonists reacted to this act by holding meetings to discuss it. Supporter of the revolution ( just to name some of them: John Adams, John Hancock, Dr. Joseph Warren ) wrote letters of protest to the government's officials, but they didn't achieve anything. The tea ships arriving in Boston still had to pay the full British tax. The event ( its getting exciting ) In September, 1773, a radical group of colonists found out, that three East India tea cargo ships, laden full with tea, were heading for Boston under full sail. They knew, that if the ships got unloaded and the tax would be paid, it would be a crushing defeat. The same radical group wanted to make the agents of the East India Company resign from their job in front of a big crowd, but this part didn't work. Over the following weeks speeches in form of propaganda were made, to get all colonists informed about the events. People even quitted drinking tea ( what they did for their whole life ) and started drinking coffee. The actual event On November 18th, 1773, the ships arrived. Pamphlets were posted to arrange a meeting between the citizens and the governor ( Hutchison ), called the Committee of Correspondence. They wanted him to call the ships back to Britain. When he didn't agree, a bunch of men, disguised as Indians, went and stormed towards the harbor, planning to throw the tea into the bay. They divided in three groups, each of them with one leader.
